Insurance Claim Case Histories
Many Companies do not survive following a major loss and it is estimated that approximately 80% of companies suffering a loss are either not insured correctly or are underinsured.
Don’t be part of that percentage!
Company A.
Had a large fire insurance claim but the insurance broker failed to insure the client’s fixtures & fittings, equipment,office, hired-in fork lift trucks and business interruption; leaving the company with a major loss and having to pay the hire company a substantial sum for his hired-in fork lift truck. Question your insurance broker on the insurance cover provided.
Company B.
The insurance broker failed to advise the client on how to calculate the Business interruption level of insurance cover. Following a fire the insurer’s settlement was about 25% of the loss and the company did not survive due to under insurance.
Company C.
A company bought another company and brought it into their group. When the due diligence was conducted, their adviser failed to establish their employers liability history and a serious health claim arose from an employee resulting in a claim. As the insurers could not be established the company had to pay the insurance claim which was many thousands.
Suggestion: Request that your insurance broker investigates when you are buying a company.
Company D.
A manufacturer of a critical safety item ran a number of years when a failure resulted in a fatality. It was not noticed by the insurance broker or the insured that the policy excluded this item for a specific use and the insurer declined the insurance claim. A Substantial sum was paid to the claimant. Always check your insurance policy very carefully.
Company E.
Suffered a substantial loss resulting from a theft. The insured failed to meet the condition of the insurance policy in leaving the building without an alarm in full working order and the insurance claim was declined. Read all the conditions on your insurance policy.
Company F.
The company employed a number of insurance brokers to provide renewal terms and finally took the cheapest insurance quote. A major fire insurance claim occurred and the business was underinsured and they lost £1.75 million in their insurance claim. They did not survive. If you take a really cheap insurance premium make sure you have the insurance cover you require.
