Riot and Civil Commotion Insurance Concerns
In light of the recent problems occurring throughout the UK and especially in London, many individuals and businesses are extremely concerned as to their position with regard to their insurance cover. Policies should automatically include the peril of Riot and Civil Commotion. It is important you check your policy to make sure this cover is included. If you are a shop with large glass windows you must make sure the replacement of these are also covered by your policy. It is suggested that you take what ever action you can to prevent a loss. This can include moving any goods or stock to a safe area, boarding up windows and securing doors. It is better NOT to leave anything on show, such as goods or tills. If your building is already fitted with security grills or shutters, make sure these are in working order and put in place when closing the premises. If you do not have shutters to protect vulnerable glazing then consider temporary boarding. Make sure you have up to date copies of any computer data and that it is stored away from the premises. Avoid leaving combustible or flammable items outside the premises or any items that can be used to damage your premises. Finally the safety of your staff and customers must be your priority. Make sure you have suitable emergency plans and that you can get your staff away from the premises should danger arise.
